This is an important side effect of treating diabetes. Up to date, the most effective way to avoid hypoglycemia is prevention. Patients themselves and their family members play a leading role in preventing this complication. This problem requires patients to have certain attitudes, behavior and confidence about hypoglycemia. However, there is little information on attitudes, behavior and confidence of hypoglycemia in patients with Type 2 diabetes (T2DM) in Vietnam. Purpose This research is to investigate the attitudes, behavior and confidence of hypoglycemia and examine the relationships of demographic characteristics, clinical information, attitudes, behavior and confidence of hypoglycemia in T2DM patients Methods This research of correlation of cross-sectional design was conducted in Da Nang city. A total of 150 patients with T2DM who attended outpatient clinics and hospitalized for treatment at Military Medical Hospital 17 were recruited in this research. Participants are required to complete a questionnaire to survery the hypoglycemia attitudes and behavior scale and hypoglycemia confidence scale. The statistical analysis was undertaken by SPSS IBM 22. Result The rate of anxiety about hypoglycemia among participants was small, it accounts for 23.3% and only one third of patients (38.7%) has taken unhealthy actions of avoidance hypoglycemia. However, most of them (68.7%) are not confident when hypoglycemia occurs. Their hypoglycemia confidence is also negatively affected by hypoglycemia attitudes and behavior. Up to 82.7% of patients did not have confidence in hypoglycemia, and only accounted for a very small percentage of patients who are strong confidence 17.3%. Our study found a statistically significant association between demographic characteristics, clinical information, attitudes, behavior and confidence of hypoglycemia. Conclusion Attitudes and behavior of hypoglycemia are related to the confidence of hypoglycemia. In order to prevent this crisis, it is important for nurses to educate patients how to deal with this problem in their daily life.
