In this approach, a wet scrubber device was integrated with a wastewater filtration unit for the scrubber effluent, to remove the air pollutants and recycle the water sprayed into the scrubber in the meantime. The wet scrubber itself was stacked withRaschig rings and contact filters, both captured the air pollutants while the furnace exhaust stream flowed through and was mixed with the evenly distributed scrubbing liquid. Treated fume/gases were discharged into the air afterwards, under the condition that black smoke was no longer visually observed and the environmental emission standards were met. Over the one-year trial, the facility proved to be practical and removed the particulate matters successfully. The black smoke problem in the factorywas solved. The removal efficiency of SS and turbidity from the scrubbed liquid was 75% in average, up to 95%. Therefore, the scrubbing liquid can be recycled and reused to achieve the goal of zero discharge.
