Firefighting manpower in Taiwan has long been unbearable, these firefighters not only have to perform tasks stated on relevant disaster prevention regulations, such as the rescue of wind, fire, earthquake, and exploration, but also to support additional needs from people to response the environmental changes. The study is to explore how the expectations of fire volunteers affect to the participation motivation of volunteer works, and how working engagement mediates it. The results are expected to deliver active recommendations to fire department to recruit firefighter volunteers.
As the results, the participation motivations of volunteer are mostly affected by the expectations of volunteer, as well as these relationships are mediated by working engagements. Recommendations tell that subject to the costs and time, fire departments can disseminate the advantages of being firefighter volunteers through multiple channels, making the person, who desires to and willing to engage in firefighter volunteer, to understand and ascertain if their expectation of being a firefighter volunteer can be realized in the participation of firefighting activities and increase the participation motivation then.
