Summary:碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 音樂學系 === 107 === Vincenzo Bellini (1801-1835) is considered one of the most prominent figures in the history of Italian opera. He was deeply influenced by the bel canto style prevalent in the early 19th century, and wrote plentiful well-received songs based on the style. Among Bellini’s numerous musical works, Sei Ariette is relatively short if compared with the operas. Nevertheless, Sei Ariette incorporates a variety of bel canto singing techniques as well as highly literary verse, which make it a prerequisite to the research on Bellini’s composing style and the historical background of his time. The thesis is consist of five chapters. Chapter one is the introduction, defining the motivation, the purpose, the methodology, and the scope of the thesis in addition to the literature review. Chapter two elaborates on the life and musical style of Bellini, while chapter three deals with the Academy of Arcadia, along with the life and characteristic styles of two poets from this academy, Pindemonte and Metastasio. Chapter four is the musical analysis, poem review, and song interpretation of Sei Ariette. Chapter five brings the above to the conclusion. The thesis focuses on the poetry and musical analysis of Sei Ariette, while the biographies and composing styles of not only the musician but also the poets are also referred to. Hopefully by better comprehending this piece of composition, vocalists will be able to interpret Sei Ariette in a way closer to the idea meant to be conveyed through this work of art.
