Various notch filters have different center wavelengths, transmittances, and half bandwidths. For providing color blindness glasses, the notch filter has the lower transmittance at the center wavelength and the smaller half bandwidth, such as 25 nm. A symmetric thin film stack of the filters are designed by using aluminum oxide (Al2O3) as the high refractive index layer and silicon dioxide (SiO2) as the low refractive index layer. The optimal deposited notch filter has an 8% transmittance at the center wavelength 590 nm and a half bandwidth of 25 nm. The average transmittance in the side bands of the filter exceeds 80%.
