A total of 524 valid questionnaires was collected from young children and their parents in northern Taiwan. The results were analyzed by SPSS Statistics that uses T-test, correlation analyses and multiple regression analyses. The research results were as followed:
1. The situation of parent-child reading was between "agree" and "mostly agree", family reading environment was between "no opinion" and "agree", the reading behavior and interest of young children was between "no opinon" and "agree".
2. According to the results of Pearson correlations, the background variables of young children were significantly positively correlated with the reading behavior and interest of young children. In addition, both parent-child reading and family reading environment were significantly and highly positively correlated with the reading behavior and interest of young children.
3. Regression analyses showed that all of the variables accounted for 43% to 74% variance of young children’s reading behaviors and interests. In the background variable, only the gender of young children had the significant positive prediction on reading preferences subscale in the reading intersts. Reading and interactive habits, and reading and interactive behavior in parent-child reading had the significantly positive prediction on reading behavior and interest. Reading resources, reading environment and reading habits in family reading environment had the significantly positive prediction on the reading behavior and interest.
