It is not just retiring from the workplace, but also changing the lifestyle and the environment. It’s one’s chance to turn a new leaf. One’s past experiences shape his or her unique beliefs about lives. Retirement is a stage that cannot be underestimated. Interpersonal interaction, leisure behavior, adaptation and the meaning of life all affect one’s attitude toward aging.
Therefore, the purpose of this study is to understand four aspects of retired principals, including communication behavior, leisure behavior, adaptation and the meaning of life. The research scope focuses on principals retired from elementary schools in Taoyuan City. It is conducted through in-depth interviews and has interviewed with 7 elementary school principals in total.
The study found out that in terms of communication behavior, retired principals have good interpersonal interactions. Most people use instant message app LINE to connect with friends. They also maintain the habit of reading. In terms of leisure behavior, there are volunteer service, leisure activity, interest learning, and religion. In terms of the adaptation, affected individually by variables including the retirement reason, personality, and whether there is a retirement planning. In terms of the meaning of life, interviewers tend to have a positive attitude toward life and have different opinions about personal life expectancy.
