碩士 === 逢甲大學 === 經營管理碩士在職學位學程 === 107 === For a small to medium enterprise (SME) in Taiwan, it is common for the owner’s wife to assist in the development of its business. Although the nature and significance of these women are quite different from those of a common female employee or female entrepreneur, few literatures have touched on the special role these female individuals play in developing and running a business through the startup stage and how they cultivate their own abilities along the way. This study intends to explore how modern women of different generations and backgrounds adapt to the rather submissive role as an owner’s wife; including their effort to engage their own entrepreneurial process through identity build-up and adjustment as well as advancement in business skills and knowledge (this study excludes families running an inherited business). The findings of this study may provide clues to those interested in reflecting on couple-owned SMEs and female startups to identify their structural features and differences, which are helpful for making adjustments to one’s mindset and marital relationship.
