Summary: | 碩士 === 逢甲大學 === 化學工程學系 === 107 === Direct Methane Fuel Cell is a promising technology for conversion of methane to produce electrical power. Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) is such a kind of Fuel Cell, which operates at high temperature and allows methane directly used as fuel without noble metal as catalysts. When methane is used, however, coking (i.e. carbon deposition) on state of the art anode, nickel/yttrium stabilized zirconia (Ni/YSZ), causes a problem to develop this technology. In this study, we chose Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia (YSZ) as the electrolyte, and Lanthanum Strontium Manganite (LSM) as the cathode. We modify nickel cermet anode by adding boron, calcium oxide, calcium hydroxide, magnesium oxide, lanthanum titanium (LaSrTi) and coating of copper, respectively, to investigate their effect on reduction of coking. We found that the anode with boron powder is the best to resist coking. The anode with LaSrTi has a low performance in hydrogen, however, it improves in methane. Future studies will be done to dope LaSrTi with other ions for high performance. An anode containing magnesium oxide can increase catalytic activity in methane, but it has little effect on reduction of carbon deposition.
