碩士 === 大葉大學 === 管理學院碩士在職專班 === 107 === The aim of this paper is to recognize how basic background information relating to junior high school students impacts smartphone usage and the correlation between smartphone use and academic performance. We select a sample of 128 students studying at public junior high schools in Daliao District, Kaohsiung City, and create a Google Form survey divided into three parts embracing basic background information, smartphone usage, and academic achievement. The quantitative data analysis is based on the average grade of three regular exams including tests of Chinese, English, and Mathematics in fall semester, 2018. The results are as follows: (1)Gender is not a critical influence on daily smartphone usage for junior high school students.(2)Daily smartphone usage is not affected by age for junior high school students.(3)Significant differences in the everyday use of smartphones are presented on account of students growing up in diverse family structures.(4)Academic achievement is significantly negatively associated with smartphone usage time per day.
