We select a sample of 128 students studying at public junior high schools in Daliao District, Kaohsiung City, and create a Google Form survey divided into three parts embracing basic background information, smartphone usage, and academic achievement. The quantitative data analysis is based on the average grade of three regular exams including tests of Chinese, English, and Mathematics in fall semester, 2018. The results are as follows: (1)Gender is not a critical influence on daily smartphone usage for junior high school students.(2)Daily smartphone usage is not affected by age for junior high school students.(3)Significant differences in the everyday use of smartphones are presented on account of students growing up in diverse family structures.(4)Academic achievement is significantly negatively associated with smartphone usage time per day. (5)There are significant differences found between academic achievement and smartphone usage.
