A quasi-experimental design was adopted in the study. Nurses from four intensive care units were randomly assigned to the esperimental group (n = 27) and the control group (n = 28). The experimental group received multimedia with video instruction and incontinence dermatitis care immersive situational teaching as an interventional program. The control group received multimedia assisted instruction. The study gathered data using questionnaire designed to address the care of incontinence associated dermatitis and the Direct Observation of Procedural Skills (DOPD). The participants were evaluated before and after the program was conducted. Data analysis was performed by t test and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). According to the results of the post-intervention, the incontinence dermatitis care knowledge, attitude and skill in the experimental group were significantly better than the control group (p < .05). The incontinence dermatitis care immersive situational teaching was found to improve the incontinence dermatitis care knowledge, attitude and skill for nursing staff in intensive care unit. The results of the present study provide a reference for clinical situated simulation education. The research also suggests to adopt a multi-disciplinary teaching strategy to improve the capacity of incontinence dermatitis care among critical care nurses.
