Top Volleyball League (TVL) is the highest-level competition of domestic volleyball competition. In the league stage, there are weekly competitions, resulting in sustained physical and mental pressure. Purpose: To explore the changes in the physical and mental state of elite female volleyball players during the five-week TVL competition period. Methods: Ten elite female volleyball players (age 23.4 (2.95) y/o, height 173.5(5.59) cm, weight 66.4 (4.67) kg, exercise age over 10 years) were recruited. The blood samples were collected to further biochemical analysis (hemoglobin, HB; creatine kinase, CK; blood urine nitrogen, BUN) on an empty stomach at 7:00 am every other day after the weekly competition of 2019 TVL. The “profile of mood states” questionnaires were simultaneously filled in to investigate tension, anger, fatigue, depression, vigor, confusion and self-related emotions. The data processing was performed using SPSS 22.0 statistical software for descriptive statistics, frequency allocation, independent sample t-test, and ANOVA. Results: The five-week TVL period (1) CK was significantly increased in the third week (30.14%) and the fifth week (56.59%) (p<.05). (2) There is no significant difference in the psychological state indicators. (3) HB was significantly negatively correlated with "fatigue" facet (γ=.822, p=.034); BUN was significantly positively correlated with "depression" facet (γ=.995, p=.001). Conclusion: In the early stage of TVL, due to the continuous weekly competition, the body is in a high-pressure situation, resulting in significant muscle fatigue, but the psychological condition is still stable. Because psychological quality and biochemical metabolism show significant related characteristics, it is necessary to use the psychological quality level to estimate physiological condition, convenient to control the physical and mental state of the players during the competition.
