The problem of narcotics trafficking has become an international problem nowadays, especially in Southeast Asian countries such as Indonesia and Taiwan. Given the serious nature of drug trafficking crimes, and nature and global implications, it is clear that there is a crucial need for a shared understanding of the criminal activities of drug trafficking internationally so that they can be dealt with effectively. The title of this study is "A Study on the Drug Trafficking in Indonesia and in Taiwan: Strategies, Cooperation and Capital Punishment". This research is to analyze the policies of the Indonesian government and the Taiwanese government in implementing strategies and cooperation in combating drugs and analyzing whether the capital punishment for drug traffickers is quite effective in reducing the number of cases of drug trafficking and also making policy recommendations for preventing and combating drug trafficking. This research is mainly a qualitative research, is based on a review and analysis of available literature, including primary data and secondary data. This research applies a comparative study on the subject of drug trafficking in two countries between Indonesia and Taiwan by the approach of strategy, cooperation, and capital punishment. In addition, this study conducted a simple quantitative method for comparing data on drug trafficking cases in Indonesia and in Taiwan. Analysis of various written sources such as the legislation, policies, followed by interviews with the two state institutions that are authorized to handle drug cases. To combat and prevent drug trafficking, the Indonesian government issued Narcotics Law No. 35 of 2009 and the Taiwan government issued a Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act as a guideline for law enforcement. The cooperation to prevent and overcome the smuggling of narcotics, in both countries is achieved by adopting the UN Convention. However, in the efforts of bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Taiwan, there was a problem because the two countries did not have diplomatic relations. The absence of representatives of the Indonesian police in Taiwan was considered very difficult in collaborative efforts between Indonesian and Taiwanese law enforcement. The death penalty is still valid in Indonesia and Taiwan. During 2015-2016, the Indonesian government executed 18 drug cases. This is inversely proportional to Taiwan, Taiwan did not apply the death penalty for drug trafficking suspects for 14 years from 2005 to 2018. Sheng-hsiu Chiu 邱盛秀 2019 學位論文 ; thesis 147 en_US
