Summary: | 碩士 === 國立中正大學 === 犯罪防治碩士在職專班 === 107 === In view of the proliferation of drug abuse, according to data from the Taiwan Disease Control Agency, the recidivism rate of drug addicts is as high as 80%, however, drug abuse is related to the infection of AIDS. People cannot live without eating or drinking, but drug addicts can give up their basic needs for survival just for a few hours of short-lived pleasure.
This study sampled five females. Semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted by researchers based on interview and research. The actual interviews were conducted through the counselors and researchers of the North Women's Detention Center. Based on the information obtained from the interviews, narrative research analysis was done to understand the psychological process from the individual perspective and use the theory of drug abuse as an explanation of the course of drug abuse, learn about the feelings after HIV infection and the process of drug rehabilitation.
The relevant clinical reports on drug use have increased with the number of abusers, but individual studies of drug addicts are insufficient therefore, this study hopes that the purpose of the establishment of modern prisons, detention centers and other correctional institutions through the sharing of individual experiences of drug addicts infected with AIDS is to use the period of enlightenment to make the prisoners quit drug use, and can return to the society after being discharged from the prison, thus can achieve crime prevention. Prison institutes prepared courses on education, cultural activities, and counseling, but most of the criminals with drug addiction are psychologically traumatized. The rate of recidivism after going to the prison is quite high. In addition to the psychological treatment with traditional medicine, education courses such as horticultural treatment is also done. The prisoner’s change of way of thinking also improve the rate of crime prevention after the prisoner's detention .
To assist the women, in July 2010, the Taipei government established the Taipei Women’s Detention Center accepting criminal defendants and prisoners with a term of three years or less. 60% of drug abusers are suitable for horticultural treatment. It is a process that uses plants, horticultural activities, and the natural environment to promote physical, mental health and social well-being. It is also known as green healing, which can increase self-esteem, self control leading to renewal thereby assisting female prisoners to return to society.
