Summary: | 碩士 === 國立中正大學 === 通訊工程研究所 === 107 === Narrow Band Internet of Things (NB-IoT) is one of Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) with the advantages like long range, lots of connections, low cost, and low power. It is a new technology that many telecommunications operators are deploying actively. NB-IoT can use existing Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks to deploy. Telecommunications operators can enhance the LTE network to support the new functions of NB-IoT. NB-IoT added Service Capability Exposure Function (SCEF) to provide Application Programming Interface (API) for Application Server (AS) to get information.
Network Function Virtualization (NFV) virtualizes the network functions into software, and the the specific hardware for achieving these network functions is not necessary. In addition, NFV can improve the agility of deployment and updating, has better flexibility of configuration, and can reduce the cost to buy hardware devices.
We implemented a virtualized EPC (vEPC) for NB-IoT based on NFV technology in this paper. Virtualizing the network functions of NB-IoT core network into several virtual machines (VM). Implementing the NB-IoT core network functions, such as User Equipment (UE) Attach, Release, Detach and MO/MT (Mobile Originated/Mobile Terminated) data transport. We also implemented the new functions NB-IoT enhanced the LTE core network like Non-IP data delivery, data over control plane. And add SCEF to provide client services. We have Evolved Node B (eNB), vEPC, and off-the-shelf UE in the testbed. At last, experimented to use the vEPC in IoT applications such as temperature sensing system and face recognition system.
