Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立中正大學 === 物理系研究所 === 107 === Lightning in nature is an impressive and large-scale phenomenon in our daily life. Scientists have studied lightning for hundreds of years. In our experiment, we investigated the lightning-like discharge at the atmospheric pressure. The discharge is generated by the handmade Tesla coil with a 168 kVpp maximum output voltage. The evolution and propagating behaviors of plasma lament are observed by ICCDs and a photomultiplier. We show that the selection of propagation route results in the zigzag discharge pattern. The increasing of plasma density which is associated with plasma emission intensity seems to be a cause of the lament branching. We conclude that the precursors at the tip of the main discharge are not a crucial factor in affecting the propagation direction of the plasma lament. The hot gas channel generated by the discharge maintains the shape of discharge morphologies and resulting a similar discharge pattern for the repetitive burst-typed discharges.
