Yi-Ting Chiang 蔣逸婷 碩士 元智大學 經營管理碩士班(國際企業學程) 106 This research aims at exploring the key determinants of international strategic alliance performance and examining the role of contextual factors in explaining the alliance performance in e-commerce industry. We conducted survey research on a sample of 172 e-commerce firms with international strategic alliance experience based in Taiwan. The main research findings are that partner reputation, partner fit, inter-partner relationship, as well as government support directly contribute to enhancing the international strategic alliance performance, while institutional distance negatively moderates the relationships between these partner characteristics and government support on alliance performance. The findings support the integrated theoretic framework proposed in this research that institutional distance may be troublesome for e-commerce firms seeking international collaborations with foreign partners, given the favorable partner reputation, compatible resource portfolios, harmonious partner relationships, and substantial government supports. In this regard, successful alliance performance not only requires the partner firms making efforts in strengthening their bonds with each other in terms of resource exchanges and partner interactions, but it also demands the partners recognizing the importance of contextual variations and set-ups between their home countries. Specifically, government supports may be the foundation for alliance formation across national boundaries, institutional distance, however, is the key to influencing the alliance performance during the collaborative process.
