News reports constantly disclose the waste of school lunch and it reminds us of the importance of diet education. Among others, ”partial eclipse” is the main cause of students’ waste. Therefore, enhancement of students’ belief to cherish food is the educational priority. By literature collection and Yunlin County as the subject to investigate school lunch, this study interviews school lunch related personnel, clarifies main cause of food waste of school lunch, includes description of local agricultural products and reinforces cognition and positive impression on vegetables. After reorganizing experts’ opinions, this study realizes that the cause is the behavior of ”partial eclipse” which results in food waste. Based on this aspect, it launches creation of Picture Book. It develops character setting by personification. “The Food Monster” is the leading character of the story and vegetables are the supporting roles. By the plot upon the conflict between the hero and villains, students learn the concept to cherish food and approach vegetables and have good impression. In addition, it applies Picture Book as teaching material to enhance learning outcome. In field instruction, it shows that elementary school students obtain the concept to cherish food by The Food Monster in the story and by personified roles of vegetables; it reinforces students’ recognition of nutrition knowledge related to vegetables. By serial creation of Picture Book, it conveys advantages of vegetables to human bodies and the knowledge to not waste the food. Based on culture of local agriculture, it presents more diverse instructional development as the aids for diet education in elementary schools in order to upgrade students’ learning interest, solve the problems of shortage of teaching materials and result in positive educational effectiveness.
