Summary: | 碩士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 企業管理系 === 106 === This study examines the roles of operations capabilities and open innovation activities in sustaining firm growth performance. Drawing from the
absorptive capacity perspective and organizational inertia theory, this study argues that operations capabilities have a curvilinear effect on firm growth performance that is moderated by open innovation activities.
A mail survey was sent to the Top 1000 manufacturing companies in Taiwan, resulting in 231 sets of matched responses from senior operations managers and senior R&D managers. Firm growth performance was obtained from objective data (ROI and market share) in 2010 and 2013.
The findings support the argument that operations capabilities have an inverted U-shaped relationship with firm growth performance. Meanwhile, open innovation activities strengthen the positive effect and overcome the negative effect of operations capabilities on firm growth performance.
This study not only resolves the conflicting views about the relationship between operations capabilities and firm performance, but also adds to the open innovation literature by empirically confirming that open innovation activities help firms with effective coordination of operations capabilities.
