Methods: There are 58 over 30 years-old healthy females volunteered participate this study, including belly dance (n=15), Yoga (n=15), circuit resistance training (Curves, n=13), and females who do not have regular exercise habits (n=15). Each exercise group participated twice per week and continued more than one year. After fill in questionnaires, including Three-Day Physical Activity Log (3-d PAL) and Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q), all participants performed physical examination, including body height, body weight, body mass index, waist and hip circumference, blood pressure, and physical fitness after standardized breakfast. All data were presented as mean±SD, and then one-way analysis of variance with repeated measurement was used to analyze the differences between the four groups. Results: Belly dance group could maintain better parameters on weight, body fat ratio, and body mass index (BMI). Belly dance group have better muscle strength of trunk flexor (abdominal) than the yoga group and better lower extremity flexor (back of the thigh) strength than Curves group. In the yoga group, the flexion muscle strength of the lower extremity was significantly better than Curves group and without regular exercise group. The flexibility of each exercise group was better than the group without regular exercise, but there was no significant improvement in the balance ability, bone density, and cardiorespiratory endurance. Conclusion: Due to the decrease in physical activity and physical deterioration caused by life styles, the results of this study can provide the choice and basis for middle-aged women who are sedentary lifestyles to engage in sports.
