During the Meiji Reform in 1870, scholars from Japan were sent to Europe to study the local techniques and knowledge. Thus during Japanese Occupation in Taiwan the Terrazzo method was brought in and became popular from 1960s to 1970s. It was the collective memory of the common materials in the living space at Taiwan. Nowadays, the technique is replaced by new building materials due to the complicated and difficult process of Terrazzo and the pollution of cement, leading to the disappearance of the excellent artisan techniques. Therefore, this research aims to document the evolution from the early dry Terrazzo technique by hand to the later wet Terrazzo technique by machines and the differences and the diversity of the range of its application over the past 60 years in Taiwan based on the usage of Terrazzo in residences, street houses, churches, buildings from the Japanese Occupation Era and temples. The result of this research are listed in five as below: 1. Field study of real cases of the application of Terrazzo. 2. A review of special Terrazzo techniques 3. Application parts of Terrazzo of different types of buildings .4. Temple decorative pattern. 5. The application of creative new style Terrazzo. The results above give a clear picture of the evolution of Terrazzo from Japanese Occupation Era to modern times. Moreover, the research provides a systematic documentation of the traditional artisan techniques and the decorative patterns, with the value of tangible and intangible cultural heritage at the same time. It can also be used as an important reference for the renovation of replication of of Terrazzo in the reuse and renovation of monuments and old buildings Chia-chi Chen 陳嘉基 2018 學位論文 ; thesis 189 zh-TW |
