The east of ancient Tainan was plateau and the west was steep in the ocean. Skirts of the ocean were sandbank and it formed the enclosed sea called “Tai-Jiang”. The coast encountered several times of transgression and regression and it accelerated erosion and accumulation. Expansion of sand dune continued to the west and it connected with the sandbank of the skirts as the land. In early times, it was the activity area of Taiwanese plains aborigines. The sunshine was sufficient and it had been developed as salt pan, fish farm, etc. It resulted in diversity of wetland ecology and shows the significance of historic place. This study provides experience center of cultural memory and the concept of creation and design is based on essence of “place”. Tai-Jiang is influenced by heaven, earth, human and god. This study applies natural phenomenon of place essence and operation interaction among time, space, human and architecture. It recomposes the fragmental natural and historic elements in the place as ordered spatial creation. In this study, the design concept is originated from aboriginality and features of living place, human landscape and natural environment. It integrates historic place, natural landscape, elements and space to form a harmonious symbiotic place closely linked to land. Light and shadow alternate diversely through water area, hedges and changes of natural phenomena to explore historic, cultural and ecological feature places and restore essence and spirits of Tai-Jiang memory. In the design, an ideal interaction between human and environment is well presented from the view of painters of Qing Dynasty. Through this research and exploration, a suitable life and leisure place can be constructed during design operation period to awaken memory and affection of human to nature, and deliver the cultural and visual design planning.
