With the progress of digital technology, in recent years, smart home can be based on the operation of technology of Internet of Things and data analysis of Big Data. Needs of life are satisfied in domestic space. Furniture, electric appliances, and equipment in the houses are connected by the Internet, which become automatic and smart to approach people’s needs, and provide complete service of care. This study is aimed at the issue of “the living environment for the elderly”. Through integration of general design with intelligent devices, it explores how to create living environment for the elderly which meets the intelligentization goals: safety, health care, comfort and convenient, energy saving and sustainability, on the basis of the spirit of the orange technology (Gerontechnology), for the purpose of aging in place, in consideration with the physiological and psychological changes and features of the elderly. Intelligent home is people-oriented, and combined with surrounding relevant industries to promote home help service technology. Nowadays, the traditional families have gradually lost the function to care for the elderly. This study introduces general design to create an accessible home space for the elderly which meets their physiological and psychological needs. Meanwhile, it uses the intelligent device functions such as early warning, real-time notification, feedback, intelligentization and automation to make up for deficiency of the general design (the design and device complement each other), so as to improve the elderly living environment.
