Its style has been developed through different time periods, which is not only popular in all generations but also represents Taiwanese culture as a preforming art. In 2006, about one hundred and thirty thousand Taiwanese people voted glove puppetry as the “Taiwan Image”. Nowadays, the Pi-Li glove puppetry has become the mainstream which is leading the traditional Taiwanese performing arts into a new era.
The incidental music of Pi-Li glove puppetry plays an essential part when watching it. Every main Pi-Li glove puppetry character has their unique incidental music and theme songs, which impresses the audience as the story goes more complicated. It also becomes a hot topic when fans discuss their favorite characters.
This thesis emphasizes on the incidental music of Pi-Li glove puppetry from three aspects: firstly, the development of the incidental music of Taiwanese glove puppetry though literature reviewing method; secondly, how does Pi-Li glove puppetry create different characters through instrumental incidental music; and lastly, how does the theme songs of different characters represent their personality through melody and lyrics.
