The number of cars is increasing because of the convenience, speed and efficiency it can bring to people. However, reckless driving leads to increase of the probability of traffic accidents. For example, drunk driving, speeding, improper turn, disobeying traffic lights and signs... etc. In recent years, the number of fatalities caused by drunk driving crashes has risen rapidly. The government attempts to reduce drunk driving by applying the strict policies on prevention measures, with limited success. This paper describes how license plate recognition applied on banning drunk driving violation. The process of this application is described below: All the license plate information of the drunk drivers offenders was recorded in the database. IP Camera will be set up in front of the inspection station and generate real-time video stream which will be transmitted though the LAN to the license plate recognition system. The license plate recognition system detects all the passing vehicles in the real-time video stream. An alert notification will be sent to station polices if the system recognizes same license plate number as built database. This application can enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of drunk driving prevention and enforcement.
