In this study, the family mold (20 cavities) was designed, which includes a plastic edge piece (8 cavities), a double-hole connecting ring (8 cavities), and a single connecting ring (4 cavities). After the injection molding, the plastic edge piece will have a large warpage, and the double-hole connecting ring will have a serious shrinkage. Meanwhile, achieving a balanced flow pattern must be considered for this family mold. In the study, the Moldex3D simulation software was used to analyze the warpage of the plastic edge piece in the X direction and the experiment result has been verified through injection molding. The double-hole connecting ring is too thick between the two holes, so the CAE analysis shows that there is a serious shrinkage between the two holes. The result shows that the important factors affecting the S/N ratio in order are the first-stage packing pressure, cooling time, first-stage packing time and second-stage packing time, as well as discovering the significant contribution of each factor through ANOVA analysis. After that, at the 85% confidence level, use the confidence interval to evaluate the predicted value and confirm the calculation error of experimental value. The result shows that the confirmed experimental value is very close to the predicted value. As for the double-hole connecting ring shrinkage, which can be decreased effectively by adding venting design on injection mold. The flow balance problem of the family mold can be improved by the design of the runner and the gate size; Apart from that, it can work with Moldex3D CAE analysis to provide suggestions for improvement.
