It is acknowledged that an RF energy-harvesting antenna is desired to depict circular polarization (CP) and omnidirectional patterns, as ambient sources are omni-presented; however, the polarization features and half-power beamwidth (HPBW) of the antenna are inconclusive in earlier studies. To clarify the requirement of radiation characteristics, we analyze the receiving performance of six antennas with different HPBWs and polarizations. Our research methodology is a modified shooting-and-bouncing-ray technique, which traces multipath propagation in an indoor environment. These antennas are placed at different locations in a room, and the orientation angles are evenly and uniformly sampled. The receiving performance of each antenna is cast into cumulative density functions, which enable us to identify the antenna that provides the maximum amount of successful reception at a given energy-harvesting sensitivity. The simulated results are verified by performing measurement. Surprisingly, our results depict that CP and omnidirectional patterns cannot offer the most favorable receiving performance; in contrast, linear polarization and unidirectional patterns with a narrow HPBW are desired in most of the scenarios, even though the orientation angles have been uniformly sampled. 陳晏笙 2018 學位論文 ; thesis 119 zh-TW
