In general, the Doze mode turn off its transmitter and only accept downstream data via its receiver; while in the Sleep mode both transmitter and receiver for ONU are closed. Once ONU decides to switch to either Active, Doze, or Sleep modes, it will maintain at least one cycle. We propose a Cycle-based power saving mechanism is especially for utilizing the idle time of ONU Active and Doze mode to save power on the cycle basis. The idle time refers to the time when the ONU ends the service by OLT in each cycle and the cycle is not over yet. During the idle time, the Acitve or Doze mode ONU cannot be sent or received data but keeps consuming power. For ONUs with light-load traffic, OLT will inform ONU to sleep temporarily before the end time of the cycle through the Gate message. When the ONU knows when is the end of cycle, it can use the idle time to sleep before the end of the cycle and recover from temporary sleep before the start of the next cycle. For higer-load ONUs, OLT allows them to sleep over a cycle by a TDMA fashion scheduling to extend power saving effect. Through the simulation results, the proposed mechanism can increase the ONUs energy efficiency by 10% at most in different network traffic by comparing to prior scheme. 吳和庭 2018 學位論文 ; thesis 67 zh-TW
