Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺北科技大學 === 工業設計系創新設計碩士班 === 106 === This study is intended to explore how the seating arrangement and the choice of seat influence the interaction during the congregate meal. Two excellent organizers in Taipei City were selected as research bases. Non-participant observation was used to document the complete processes of the elders in space. We analyzed attendance, time, behavior and activity processes, and integrate factors affecting interaction behavior and design conditions for congregate meal space. Finally, the design verification will be carried out to evaluate the design feasibility and benefits, as a reference for future related planning and research, to improve the quality of the congregate meal activities.
The research shows that members have up to 90% of the choice of the same seat rate. After the seat is adjusted, the members tend to choose a position that is close to the original one. Members will leave early if their seats don’t meet their needs. However, even if the seating arrangement becomes more in line with members needs, their stay time has an upper limit. When reaching the upper limit, only the ratio of the meal stage will change. Members of the same region in space have relatively similar behavioral time, especially in two-way interactions. In the design of activities, volunteers can distribute food to increase the time spent on "two-way gaze" and "one-way viewing interaction."
Through the verification, it was found that the use of a right-angled seat configuration can significantly reduce the time of two-way gaze behavior, which can alleviate the psychological pressure of members and maintain spatial proximity. The use of seating arrangements not only promotes the emergence of "gaze" and "watch interaction," but also encourages cross-regional conversations among members with more extended stays.
