Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺北科技大學 === 工業工程與管理系 === 106 === To interact products with gestures is very popular and common recently. It is especially true for the interactions with cellphones, tablets and other consumer electronic products. Since a well-designed product or system would help users achieve their goals more effectively and efficiently, it is important to understand the ways of designing the interaction. Axiomatic Design literature has proposed two axioms for product design: the independence axiom and the information axiom. However, little research focused on their effects on the interaction design. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the influences of the two axioms on the intuitiveness, learnability, and memorability of surface gesture control. First, the literature of intuition, axiomatic design and surface gestures was reviewed. Second, a subjective rating was conducted to investigate the degrees of suitability between the 31 common gestures and four common functions of video playback systems. Third, four sets of gestures were selected. Each set contained four gestures corresponding the four fuctions. The selections of the gestures were according to whether the sets of gestures fulfilled the two axioms. Fourth, accuracy rate and completion time of a pairing test were collected for each gesture group to measure the degree of intuitiveness. The number of errors and completion time of two guessing tests were collected for each gesture group to measure the degrees of learnability and memorability. Finally, participants were asked to fill out the QUESI questionnaire. Results showed that all of the dependent variables were effected by Independent Axiom. And the effects of Independent Axiom is higher than Information Axiom. Independent Axiom did not effect the dependent variables significantly, it might be caused by the insufficient number of video playback systems. The results of study could provide suggestions to surface gestures design.
