The community platform is widely loved by users because of its instant sharing and convenience. Thus, the community platform achieves the effect of brainstorming and knowledge sharing. In the rise of the maker movement is the extension of DIY culture. Maker who is a group of people love technology and is keen to practice themselves emphasizes knowledge sharing and physical interaction to learn from each other.
Knowledge sharing is an important process for makers. This study takes Facebook and Instagram of social media knowledge sharing behavior as the research topic which combines with Goffman's self-presentation as the basis of theory. It explores self-presentation of makers in the use of social media. To qualitative analysis, the interview content of makers conducts coding analysis by using semi-structured interviews. The results of the study expect to provide more knowledge-oriented sharing in the use of social media for makers.
By observing, participating communities and interviewing, the study found that the interviewees faced different Instagram and Facebook communities through social media in their daily lives to make different presentation behaviors. Through active self-presentation online in the social media, the knowledge sharing behavior of the assistive strategy is most applied. Maker youth pay attention to not only daily sharing but also maker activities sharing in community. Moreover, providing useful information to cause others to follow is the most important one for them. Through the survey of the use of community for maker youth, Instagram is used more frequently than Facebook.
