Description
Summary:碩士 === 南臺科技大學 === 休閒事業管理系 === 106 === The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship between physical fitness and academic achievement of 12-year basic education students. The subjects of this study were 1,540 students from 4th to 12th graders in National Nanke International Experimental High School of Academic Year 105. There were five criteria in physical fitness: Body Mass Index (BMI), muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, instantaneous power and cardiovascular endurance. The academic achievement was the average grade from Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies and Science. Descriptive statistics, t-test, analysis of variance, general linear model and regression analysis were computed by SPSS to analyze the data. The results showed that except 9th graders, the students made progress in physical fitness performance along the growth of the age. Besides, as students grew, their performance in academic achievement fell behind when learning materials and concepts became profound for them. Moreover, the relationship between the performance in cardiovascular endurance from elementary school, junior high and senior high school students and their academic achievement reached a significant level. However, the effect of other physical fitness on academic achievement differed according to the different year levels. The findings indicated that there was a positive relationship between students’ performance in physical fitness and their academic achievement, especially in the aspect of cardiovascular endurance. Therefore, the suggestion was addressed to education sections; the students could be encouraged to engage in cardiovascular endurance exercise.
