Open spaces, shared equipment and events as workshops or speeches aim to cultivate and gather makers. However, Makerspaces in Taiwan are mostly creativity sharing-oriented, aim to provide spaces and equipment for makers to share information and knowledge. In recent servitization of manufacturing where manufactures have transformed into tourism factories under competition, the concept of maker has been integrated to enhance the industrial value. Existing production lines of manufacturers and advantages of operating tourism factories are combined to create a R&D-oriented makerspace. The current study aims to explore how sheet metal manufacturers concurrently operating tourism factory integrated existing sources and created a unique makerspace different from that commonly rooted in creativity sharing. A cast study of the Taiwan Metal Creation Museum was carried out. An in-depth interview with the operator of the R&D-oriented makerspace was implemented to understand the operator’s business objectives and potential challenges in business operation. Makerspace users were also interviewed to collect information about the needs and thoughts for software and hardware in the production process. The results revealed that the operator of the R&D-oriented makerspace focused more on educational promotion and targeted on teachers and students. Compared to the public, coordination with the school curriculum and industry-academia collaborations enhanced makers’ ability to develop marketable products. In addition to talent cultivation, business orders could also be increased. To makerspace users, usage of specific equipment and needs for professional skills were the primary motivation. However, the overlap between existing production lines of the manufacturer and operation of a tourism factory led to conflicts between the manufacturer and makerspace users in terms of spaces, equipment, and human resources. How to solve such a problem is a major issue to businesses, and a vital factor affecting R&D-oriented makerspaces in the future. CHEN, YI-FU 陳一夫 2018 學位論文 ; thesis 147 zh-TW |

碩士 === 南臺科技大學 === 視覺傳達設計系碩士班 === 106 === With the rise of the Maker Movement in recent years, Makerspaces have
mushroomed in Taiwan. Open spaces, shared equipment and events as workshops or
speeches aim to cultivate and gather makers. However, Makerspaces in Taiwan are
mostly creativity sharing-oriented, aim to provide spaces and equipment for makers to
share information and knowledge. In recent servitization of manufacturing where
manufactures have transformed into tourism factories under competition, the concept of
maker has been integrated to enhance the industrial value. Existing production lines of
manufacturers and advantages of operating tourism factories are combined to create a
R&D-oriented makerspace.
The current study aims to explore how sheet metal manufacturers concurrently
operating tourism factory integrated existing sources and created a unique makerspace
different from that commonly rooted in creativity sharing. A cast study of the Taiwan
Metal Creation Museum was carried out. An in-depth interview with the operator of the
R&D-oriented makerspace was implemented to understand the operator’s business
objectives and potential challenges in business operation. Makerspace users were also
interviewed to collect information about the needs and thoughts for software and
hardware in the production process.
The results revealed that the operator of the R&D-oriented makerspace focused
more on educational promotion and targeted on teachers and students. Compared to the
public, coordination with the school curriculum and industry-academia collaborations
enhanced makers’ ability to develop marketable products. In addition to talent cultivation,
business orders could also be increased. To makerspace users, usage of specific
equipment and needs for professional skills were the primary motivation. However, the
overlap between existing production lines of the manufacturer and operation of a tourism
factory led to conflicts between the manufacturer and makerspace users in terms of spaces,
equipment, and human resources. How to solve such a problem is a major issue to
businesses, and a vital factor affecting R&D-oriented makerspaces in the future.
