As the first of the twenty-two flute works composed by Karg-Elert, it is the composer’s most conserved flute work which falls within the genre of late Romanticism while also implying chromaticism and impressionism. Sigfrid Karg-Elert is most prominently known for his rich repertoire for organ and harmonium, although he also composed several chamber music works. His compositional style altered among modernism such as atonality, expressionism, impressionism as well as the more conventional romanticism and even Baroque counterpoint techniques. His capability to demonstrate a beautiful mixture of the different genres earned him renowned reputation internationally. This thesis summarizes the biography and works of Karg-Elert as the foundation to understand Sinfonische Kanzone in depth. It also analyzes the musicology of this piece according to music form, harmony and motifs (themes), respectively. The author also provides her viewpoint on performance interpretation as to analogize the swift mood changes and progressively brighter theme repetition as one’s reflection on life. While sometimes nostalgic or grieving for the inevitable mishaps, one keeps his initial motif and strengthening his mind over time to eventually experience absolute hope, sheer peace and tranquility. Diploma recital program: G. F. Händel: Flute Sonata in D major (HWV 378) S. Karg-Elert: Sinfonische Kanzone O. Taktakishvili: Sonata for Flute and Piano in C Major P. Sancan: Sonatine for flute and piano A. Piazzolla: Histoire du Tango Huang, Jen-Ying 黃貞瑛 2018 學位論文 ; thesis 70 zh-TW
