Summary: | 碩士 === 東吳大學 === 政治學系 === 106 === Young female council candidates not only represent the interests of women and youth in politics but also contribute to an actively political environment. Several reasons that affect the women participate in politics, including personal education experience, family background, electoral system and social environment. To analyze how different elements affecting women to participate in politics by looking at young female candidates from the 2014 Taipei and New Taipei City Council election, this dissertation uses the quantitative and qualitative methods to study it. The dissertation starts from analyzing electoral dataset to find out the political strength of young female candidates in 2014. It then takes personal resources, electoral system, and social environment into account to classify different types of young female candidates.
Based on the candidates’ background and available resources, this dissertation pointed out three types of paths for young female city councilors in participating politics: adequate family resource candidate, assistant background candidate with rich experience, brave to voice for public opinion’s small party or no party affiliation candidate. The three different paths to politics provide young women who want to participate in politics with an ideal model.
This dissertation found that family's candidates have advantages of the support of party supporters and profound experiences in politics from their family. The assistant candidates have the support of party supporters and the support of the politician bosses. Compared with the other two types of candidates, small party or no party affiliation candidates need to rely on their own resources for elections, and the purpose of the campaign is to let more people understand the issues they care about.
