Summary: | 碩士 === 實踐大學 === 財務金融學系碩士班 === 106 === This study examines the effect of income diversification (DIV) on bank returns and risks in the ASEAN+6 countries in the period of 2007- 2016. It also investigates if there are significant differences between domestic and foreign banks, and explores the discrepancies between ASEAN and non-ASEAN banks. The regression results indicate that few of the banks studied enhance their performances through DIV. However, increased DIV is not found to contribute to less bankruptcy occurrence of domestic banks.
Regarding the impacts of DIV on performances and risk exposures of foreign and domestic banks, it correlates positively with foreign banks in decreasing risks, and in enhancing performance. Nevertheless, DIV benefits domestic banks merely in decreasing risks. In comparison of ASEAN and non-ASEAN banks, DIV is positively linked to improved bank performances for ASEAN banks, but contributes little to reducing bank risks. The non-ASEAN banks can lower their risk exposure with more DIV.
