Summary: | 碩士 === 實踐大學 === 音樂學系碩士班 === 106 === Romanticism is well known in 19th century. Composers in 19th century not only passed down the previous technics, but also combined it with their own faith. Felix Mendelssohn(1809~1847)was one of the most important composer in the romantic period. Mendelssohn prudently supported classical music of the past, not only championed the traditional composer structure exhibited in classical music, but also combined it with the techniques and harmony displayed in the romantic period, allowing the song to develop in a completely new direction. Mendelssohn’s creation(Variations sérieuses)perfectly meshed variation techniques of Baroque, Classical, and Romantic period, showcasing variation in an entirely different light. This accomplishment has an important place in the history of music.
The present study explores “Variations sérieuses” in two sequential paragraphs. First, this study provides a description of the life of Mendelssohn, his piano pieces, and his songwriting style. Then, the study will explore the evolution of variation and its music type. Lastly, this study will focus on the background of each creation, song analysis, explanation and conclusion.
