Based on the current researches, the issue of unilateral and bilateral training has been still controversial, especially in bilateral force deficit (BLFD) and specificity in sport. It still needs to be explored whether the effects of unilateral training may fix the bilateral deficit better than bilateral training and augment the sport-specific performance for soccer players. Purpose: This study investigated the effects of unilateral strength training on maximum muscular strength and jumping power. Methods: Nine collegiate athletes (20 ± 0.7 years old) with two year experiences of conducting strength training were recruited and underwent unilateral resistance training. After signing the inform consent form, the physical activity readiness questionnaire (PAR-Q) and one maximum muscular strength were accessed for the selected subjects prior to the study. Paired Sample t-test was used to exam the differences between unilateral training as independent variables and physiological indexes: maximum muscular strength test in back squat, as well as jumping power in counter-movement jump. The significant level was set at α = .05. Result: The data which were collected from before and after the unilateral training shows that there is a significant difference in the maximum muscular strength test (p=0.00<.05) ; however, there is no significant difference in the jumping power. Conclusion: It indicated that unilateral training can improve maximum muscular strength for soccer athletes; but may not develop the effectiveness of jumping powerevidently.
