Based on the home computer, this thesis proposes a smart home system structure, which integrates ZigBee, communication network, parallel image compression technique, digital cameras, and various sensors for home environment. The smart home system is equipped with multi-point surveillance, lighting control and sensors of temperature, humidity, UV index, gas or smoke concentration, vibration and infrared anti-theft detections etc. The system employs ZigBee with various sensors to form a sensing network of the smart home environment; uses camera parameters setting to decide the image size; applies the parallel image compression technique to enhance the compression speed and reduce the quantity of transmission data, hence improve the motion picture fluency; and finally adopts the communication network technology to achieve the purpose of multi-point monitoring. This thesis also provides a user interface platform of smart home monitoring and control system. The platform has the following features: (1) a simple graphical user interface, and friendly way of operations, (2) real-time image and home environment monitoring, (3) motion picture playback, and (4) remotely monitoring.
