In the past, investigators have done studies into the stability of trenches. It was indicated that the trench stability analysis is a three dimensional problem due to arching effect from the finite length of the trenches. However, few studies have considered the seismic stability analysis of trenches. This thesis therefore aims to conduct research on the stability of slurry supported trenches under seismic conditions. However, it is not clear regarding its simulation conditions. In this study, finite element upper and lower bound limit analysis methods (LA) are used to study the stability of trenches under bentonite pressure in purely cohesive clay by considering seismic conditions and to produce stability charts to be used for preliminary by engineers.
