According to the goal of national smart-grid policy, which is“Guiding the low-carbon industry”, the Executive Yuan has passed the Master plan of smart grid in 2012. Among these dimensions, deploying Advanced Metering Infrastructure(AMI) is the main job of the “smart utilization” aspect, expecting to maintain energy supply, and energy conservation and carbon dioxide reduction.
Further, AMI connects smart meters and MDMS by communication networks, thus it highly relies on the quality of communication networks. Therefore, whether we can build a safe, reliable, economy communication network determine the result of AMI system. We discuss the essentiality of the communication network by simulating the trial environment and executing sorts of tests to prove the capability of the communication system, and choose the most proper one for our country by the results mention above.
Observing from the results, we conclude that it’s almost impossible to overcome our national environment since it differs a lot from other countries, adopting hybrid techniques (ex. RF, PLC, cellular… etc.) seems more practical. Also, to raise the quality of communication and reduce the interference of noise, our suggestion is to choose the Sub-GHz band(ex. 800MHz or 900MHz… etc.). Moreover, complying with the “Low-power Radio-frequency Devices Technical Regulations”, the communication system shall be able to adjust emission power, thus can raise the penetration ability and covering of signal, decrease the constructing and maintaining cost.
