Industrial Bank of Taiwan (IBT) is committed to developing investment-banking businesses and providing comprehensive financial services to clients on the basis of sincerity, innovation, professionalism and efficiency. O-Bank group includes China Bills Finance Corporation, IBT Leasing Co., Ltd., IBT International Leasing Corp., Ltd., IBT Tianjin International Leasing Corp., Ever Trust Bank and O-Bank Education Foundation. Currently the O-bank Group engages in industrial banking, investment consultation, asset management, bills finance, commercial banking, venture capital and subsidiaries in the U.S., Hong Kong, China and Taiwan. Looking forward, the Group will continue its acquisition moves and aspire to become a global digitally focused retail bank financial group. Industrial Bank of Taiwan is one of the nation’s last industrial banks specializing in direct investments to exit the local market as it began preparing to transform itself into a commercial bank in 2015. The company aims to carve a place for itself in the nation’s overcrowded banking sector, which is dominated by rivals with larger brick-and-mortar footprints. Unlike its rivals, O-Bank’s focus on developing its digital channels is unhindered by a need to optimize the utilization of existing physical branches and other real-estate assets. In addition to providing comprehensive financial services, the bank is seeking aggressively cooperation or strategic alliance opportunities within and outside the financial industry so as to expand operating scale and pursue sustained growth. It would be the nation’s first digitally focused retail bank and offer a full array of online services. Through this case study, readers can understand that under a restricted circumstances, how O-Bank prepares to transform itself into a digitally retail bank by using Fintech and then develop various financial products. Finally, find its advantage and opportunity to achieve the destructive innovation. This Thesis is based on Harvard case study method; it includes case study and teacher’s manual which can be used to discuss business transfer, destructive innovation and Fintech. The purpose of this Thesis is to understand how O-bank accomplishes its popularity strategy of financial industry through business transfer, destructive innovation and Fintech.
