Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣藝術大學 === 藝術與人文教育研究所 === 106 === Influenced by the globalization development, countries all over the world are devoting to develop their own distinctive cultural style in order to enhance competitiveness in the international arena, cultural and creative industry is becoming the emerging industry in many countries. Influenced by the global trend, the Macao SAR government determined the positioning, as well as the specific goal and working content of the policy of cultural and creative industry in 2014, setting four major domains of the industries—cultural exposition and performance, creative design, art collection, and digital media to be the direction for development. As one part of cultural exposition and performance, dance features with diversified social meaning and function. Moreover, there is no language barrier for dance. It should be the best medium for art and cultural exchange. However, dance development in Macao is lagged behind to a certain extent by neighboring areas such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and the Philippines. To understand the development and current status of dance in Macao is crucial for making the attempt to change this dilemma.
This research aims to make a study on the situation of dance education, talent cultivation, dance performances and classification of dance groups in Macao by collecting and consolidating the information related to dance in Macao. Three contemporary dance companies in Macao, namely Cloud Dragon Dance Company, Comuna de Pedra and Stella & Artists were then selected as the research objects. Through interviewing their core members or main choreographers, an in-depth understanding of the background, development path, creative style orientation, mode and trend of operation of the companies was obtained, and it helped to understand the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats faced by contemporary dance companies in Macao. The research comes up to the following conclusion:
There are 3 stages of development of contemporary dance in Macao:
- 1st Stage – First appearance (1977–1989)
- 2nd Stage – Planting flowers in barren (1990–2009)
- 3rd Stage – Re-start of contemporary dance (2010–Present)
Currently it cannot be said that the contemporary dance scene in Macao is booming, however, there are more dance companies participating, more activities to encourage new creations, as well as more opportunities to go out of Macao for exchange, At least, development is accelerating. Through the comprehensive analysis on the internal and external environment for contemporary dance companies in Macao, SO: Maxi-Maxi strategy should be adopted. Contemporary dance companies should persist to create and make use of the network resources of the artists in company to start collaboration projects with foreign dance companies or artists. Exchange can also be an opportunity for choreographers to enhance their creativeness and qualities, for dancers to progress, as well as a way to raise their enthusiasm and energy for involvement.
