With side carving, calligraphy, and form, the artifacts are chopped. The shaper searches for the new concept of studying the seals beyond themselves on the basis of studying the seals inside themselves and creates his works with the concept of paratext.
By intergrating the resources beyond seals into sculpture, the creator hopes to establish his personal style in engraving. This article focuses on the relationship and expansibility between side carving and seal face. Because both of the artistic expression of engraving and side carving are highly related and intergrated as a whole, the creation of side carving inspires the emphasis on poetry and painting. The combination of side carving and seal face adds radiance and beauty to each other. Besides, the artistry of calligraphy enriches the expressiveness of side carving, and the artist expresses his own aesthetics through side carving. Therefore, the research of these sculptures aims at side carving and the artist seeks engraving in line with the times.
In the process of creation, the shaper started from traditional side carving and combined them with the reflection of calligraphy and other resources beyond seals, such as tiles、rooftiles、clay sealing、inscription on pottery and even Western art theory. The artist studied the different characteristics of side carving influenced by calligraphy and the expression of side carving affected by resources beyond seals and finally hoped to be able to display the diversity of side carving with the concept of paratext.
