碩士 === 國立臺東大學 === 進修部暑期文化資源與休閒產業碩士專班 === 106 === With the change of our society and economy, the evolution of our culture and values, and the end of a distressed age when the only purpose of people’s effort was to struggle to survive, leisure activities have become one of the major components of life quality. Though the choice and input level of our leisure activities should have upgraded due to the abundance of resources, most people still holds skin deep and shallow concepts towards the leisure activities, such as easy, any time and effortless. However, some small group of people endeavor themselves and put lots of efforts and resources into the development of leisure activities so as to expect respectable performance in this field. Are there any difference exists between this small group "serious leisure" and other group "casual leisure" activities participators? According to the theory of personality, an individual’s interpretation of things, habitual behaviors, and the way to overcome barriers and distress are all related to his or her personality. All those barriers occurred throughout leisure activities happen to be the indicators to investigate the differences between groups of endeavoring leisure and effortless leisure. This study uses questionnaires to analyze and inspect the relationships among serious leisure, personality traits, and barriers of leisure activities, and to examine whether personality causes an individual’s becoming endeavoring leisure person. Independent paired t-test found differences exist in big-five personality factors between groups of serious leisure and casual leisure. Differences in dealing with barriers to leisure activities justified the groupings of serious leisure and casual leisure. Moderation effect investigated by SEM found the path coefficients of「personality → serious leisure」are significantly different, while the path coefficients of「serious leisure → leisure barriers」and 「personality → leisure barriers」are insignificantly different. How to effectively cluster serious leisure and casual leisure and offer them with valid promotion and teaching programs could be the anticipated contributions of this study.
