Many studies showed that cities with innovative and inspiring infrastructure are more appealing to creative people, the agents of creativity. Moreover, places for informal social gatherings, called “third places”, have a strong capability to attract different groups of people. Creative spaces particularly are argued to have a strong impact on nurturing creativity. However, every city has its own cultural characteristics resulted in distinct implementation of creative concepts in each city. The purpose of this research is to find out whether (and if yes, how) third place development can maximize the attractiveness of Taipei city for the creative class of Generation Y. The first phase of the paper identifies existing problems affecting creativity and the importance of third places in the process of creative activity. The second phase of the research focuses on the features of an ideal third place and its real-life example. Results of the analysis lead to the conclusion that a creative space is an ideal type of third place for creative class. It is deduced that appropriate development of creative spaces that reflect the needs of young creative people of Taipei may result in increased creativity levels which can lead to increased commerce and other socio-economic factors. Recommendations for improvement and further researches are proposed. CHIA-AN KU 顧 嘉安 2018 學位論文 ; thesis 157 en_US |
