In here, most e-commerce companies still use the old project development method for software development and are reluctant to try a new type of agile development model. The traditional development and agile development modes have their own advantages and disadvantages; but the agile model is less commonly used in e-commerce software development. Whether the agile model is not suitable for the e-commerce industry is the subject of this article. This study divides the e-commerce project into two categories: short-term and medium-term, and uses data envelopment analysis to analyze various input and output factors in different software development methods. The research results show that there is not much difference in efficiency between waterfall and agile project process methods. It should be noted that the initial introduction of agile practices requires an internal period of incorporation before it can slowly operate smoothly instead of the waterfall mode. In addition, the relative efficiency of short-term projects is much higher than that of medium- and long-term projects. It is recommended that the implementation of large-scale medium and long-term projects be carried out in separate phases to avoid risks caused by special projects or other factors, and affect the final project results.
