Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺北教育大學 === 生命教育教學碩士學位班 === 106 === The purpose of this study was to to develop, implement, and examine an empathy training program for 7th graders with the method of quasi-experimental study design. The subjects of this study consisted of 146 students from a junior high school in Taipei City. 75 students were given of the motive-based empathy interventions program. 71 other students served as a control group and received original integrative activities area class. The experimental group was treated with the empathy training program, 45 minute once a week. Research tools included formative and summative assessments. Formative assessment tools included video taking, self-evaluation sheets for students, self-reflection record for the researcher, course observation sheets, and students’ feedbacks on the course. Summative assessment included the empathy scale and students’ feedbacks on the curriculum and response sheets on delayed-post tests. Content analysis was used to analyze the data from formative and summative assessments. The main findings of this study as follow:
1. As the program proceeded, in the experimental group students’ capability to empathize with others increased.
2. From summative assessments, there was no significant difference in the results from the empathy scale for both groups, but in the experimental group students’ capability to empathize with others increased.
Based on the findings of this research, a two-stage empathy training program was suggested. In the first stage, one can inspire students to display their willingness to empathize with others by implementing motive-based interventions. The second stage focuses on expression-based and motive-based interventions, in order to assist students to further their training in empathizing with others.
