Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北教育大學 === 語文與創作學系語文教學碩士班 === 106 === Abstract Since 1992, the book series of Goosebumps have been published and translated into many languages all over the world. They have been sold over 300,000,000 copies, but there are rare analytical researches about them. The aim of this research is to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the book series of Goosebumps published by Business Weekly Publications, a division of Cite Publishing Ltd. This research mainly examines the plots through contextual analysis, pointing out suspense, conflicts, foreshadowing, and plot flaws (the unrealistic plots in the stories), which are featured in this research. Although plot flaws are inevitable in stories, the plot flaws in Goosebumps series appear one after another. As a world-known best-seller author, R. L. Stine should not make these mistakes. Some plots of the book series are unconvincing but Goosebumps is still on the best bookseller list, which indicates the readers tend to ignore its unreasonable plots because the joy of reading outmatches its plot flaws. As James N. Frey states that a writer is a servant in his book How to Write a Damn Good Novel II, Goosebumps apparently doesn’t serve well for the countless readers around the world.
