Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北教育大學 === 台灣文化研究所 === 106 === The main object of this study thesis focuses on those merchants who were engaged in small-scale businesses and the commercial activities of Changhua area in Ch’ing dynasty. First of all, in the text, there is an observation conducted on the economic development in Taiwan to explore the change and the development of whole environment owing to the treaties signed by the Ch’ing dynasty for the opening of the ports and international commerce . Secondly, there is an analysis on commercial characteristics related to the change and development of Changhua area, after the treaties signed. At last, the historical materials provide the information that most of those small-scale businesses merchants immigrated from Jinjiang county, Quanzhou, Fujian province in Mainland China, and they spread to the area of Lukang Town, Changhua county. Most of them were engaged in the individual-owned businesses of retailing, especially in rice business.
